Questions people ask
How new is the weather-satellite picture?
The GOES satellites send a new full-Earth picture about every ten minutes. The page asks for the latest one each time you open a view.
What is the deep-space picture?
It is from EPIC, a camera on the DSCOVR satellite, about a million miles toward the sun. It photographs the whole sunlit face of Earth several times a day. The slider is that day's frames.
Weather pictures: NOAA GOES, public domain. Whole-Earth frames: NASA EPIC, public domain.
