About

Why another browser

Because the browser is where most of the day happens, and it has been a window with a search box for twenty years.

Sureno is a small independent project. It is not affiliated with Google, Chrome, Chromium, Apple or any of the publishers whose headlines appear in the news feed.

The idea

Everything you do in a browser generates work the browser refuses to help with. You keep thirty tabs because there is no container for the thing you are researching. You copy a paragraph into another app to ask about it because the browser cannot answer. You lose a link you had on Tuesday because bookmarks were never going to save you.

None of that needs a new rendering engine. It needs the window around the page to be better. So Sureno keeps Chromium exactly as it is — the part that faces hostile web pages should be maintained by hundreds of people, not by us — and puts the effort into the window.

How we intend to behave

  • Say what is real. Two features in the app are labelled simulations, and they are named on the security, privacy and how-it-is-built pages rather than hidden in an asterisk.
  • Do not invent proof. There are no testimonials or install counts on this site, because there are none we could honestly print yet.
  • Make leaving easy. The import copies rather than moves, and uninstalling is a drag to the Trash. A browser that is hard to leave is telling you something.
  • No dark patterns. No countdown timers, no fake scarcity, no default-browser prompt on a loop, no account you did not ask for.

How it is paid for

Sureno is free and there is no paid tier today. If sponsored recommendations appear in the news section they will be labelled “Sponsored” and kept out of the headlines. If the funding model ever changes, it will be written on this page before it is in a build.

Try it for a week alongside Chrome

The import copies your bookmarks and passwords rather than moving them, so Chrome stays exactly as you left it. If Sureno is not for you, uninstalling takes under a minute.
