Fungus gnats and other small pests
Fungus gnats breed in mix that never dries. Letting the top layer dry, and emptying the saucer, breaks that cycle. Yellow sticky traps catch flying adults; they do not fix wet soil.
Tiny flies lifting off the pot when you water are usually fungus gnats. Their young live in constantly damp mix. Water less often, from the top, and let the surface dry. A thick wet saucer is a nursery. If leaves are stippled or sticky, look under them for mites or scale and isolate that plant from the others. Wipe what you can see. Do not drench the soil with a home remedy on a plant that is already waterlogged.
