Tom Cruise’s Digger Officially Removed From Nearly 3,000 Theaters This Week After Sharp Decline

A steep theater drop

Digger opened in 3,321 theaters across North America. In its third weekend, it was removed from more than 2,700 locations and was playing at 560. The report describes the theater loss as 76.3% of the original locations. Those figures do not match: a drop from 3,321 to 560 is greater than 76.3%.

Box office falls short

The film earned $900,774 over the latest weekend, a 71.9% decline from the previous frame. Its per-theater average was $1,146. Digger opened to $8 million in the United States and Canada, finishing fifth domestically, and made another $12 million internationally. Its current totals are $17.22 million domestically and $41.72 million worldwide.

Production and cast

Warner Bros. spent around $180 million to make the film, before marketing. With fewer theaters showing it, the report says its prospects for recovering costs through domestic ticket sales appear limited.

Alejandro G. Iñárritu directed the black comedy. Cruise stars as Digger Rockwell, a billionaire oil tycoon who tries to persuade the world he can avert a catastrophe he caused.
