Old Muse links now require updated URLs as Meta turns sharing back on

Researchers found exposed links
Researchers at Claroc said earlier this week that web addresses for shared Muse conversations were based on conversation titles and recorded in public DNS. They reported finding pages that included a marketing company’s internal revenue review and a small business owner’s loan application.
Ars Technica reported Tuesday that Meta paused sharing after it was contacted about the issue. The reports raised concerns that people could locate public links to shared Muse material.
Meta restores the feature
Meta executive David Singleton said in a post on X that the underlying issue had been fixed and sharing was available again. He said the issue concerned URLs for shared Muse artifacts, which Meta describes as items such as documents and images within Muse.
Singleton said the problem was not a flaw in chat sharing. Meta’s response therefore distinguished artifact links from links to conversations.
Old links no longer work
Artifacts shared before the fix now have new URLs, Singleton said. Visitors who use an old link will see a message telling them to ask the person who shared it for the replacement.
Key points
- Meta restored Muse sharing after addressing an issue with public artifact URLs.
- Claroc researchers said the links were based on conversation titles and appeared in public DNS.
- Meta said the issue involved artifacts, not chat sharing.
- Previously shared artifacts have new URLs, and old links direct visitors to request them.
