After Week 9, 5 Most Overrated College Football Teams in the AP Top 25 Poll Face Playoff Questions

Miami and Indiana Face Pressure

Miami is the fourth team to reach No. 1 this season; the other three lost soon afterward. The Hurricanes survived a double-overtime game against Florida State, then came from behind to beat North Carolina 38-28.

Miami benefited from a controversial call and will visit Notre Dame without Malachi Toney. Indiana has also needed extra time, beating Michigan and Minnesota in overtime over the past two weeks.

BYU’s Recent Form Slips

After beating Notre Dame and rising to No. 2, BYU lost to unranked UCF in double overtime. The Cougars then beat Arizona State 27-20 after giving up a 14-point lead.

BYU has allowed at least 20 points in three consecutive games, following just one such game in its first five. A loss to Utah in the Holy War would end the Cougars’ College Football Playoff hopes.

Quarterback Questions Loom

Ohio State’s Julian Sayin is sidelined by an elbow injury, and he could miss the rest of the season. Backup Luke Fahey threw for 260 yards against USC, but the Buckeyes lost 30-18 after struggling to finish drives.

Ohio State needs to beat Oregon to remain in the playoff race. Tennessee, meanwhile, is coming off a bye after a 27-24 upset loss to South Carolina and needs to win its remaining games to stay in contention.

Tennessee’s Difficult Finish

The Volunteers’ final stretch includes home games against Kentucky and LSU, followed by road games at Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. Their quarterback concerns remain unresolved. George MacIntyre has passed for more than 200 yards once in three starts. The week off could help him, but Tennessee still faces a demanding path through the end of the regular season.

  • BYU has allowed at least 20 points in three straight games.
