Start and Finish 3 Great Thriller Books This Weekend, November 7-8, From Murder Mysteries to Family Loyalty

Christie’s island mystery

Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None brings ten strangers to a secluded island at the invitation of a mysterious host. Each is accused of a past murder, and when the guests begin dying, those still alive understand that the killer is among them.

The 272-page novel is a celebrated whodunit and a best-selling mystery. Its tightly woven plot and difficult-to-predict twists make it a fast read, with the story potentially finished in a day.

A teacher seeks revenge

Kanae Minato’s debut, Confessions, follows Yuko Moriguchi, a middle school teacher mourning her four-year-old daughter, Manami. After Manami’s death is ruled an accident, Yuko concludes that three of her students were responsible and sets a revenge plan in motion before leaving her job.

The novel explores justice and morality through characters whose choices blur the line between good and evil. It also examines the divide between teenagers and adults, and how neglect and generational misunderstanding can contribute to tragedy.

A sister’s dangerous secret

In Oyinkan Braithwaite’s My Sister, the Serial Killer, nurse Korede helps her sister Ayoola clean crime scenes and dispose of bodies after Ayoola kills her boyfriends, saying she acted in self-defense. The situation becomes more personal when Ayoola pursues Tade, a doctor Korede has long loved.

At 240 pages, the novel moves quickly toward a bleak ending. It considers family loyalty, duty and responsibility, while dark humor adds an unexpected comic edge to its sinister story.
