Home Release Sets Surprise Return for Anne Hathaway's 2026 Thriller, Including Alternate Ending Extras

A profitable adaptation
Verity is the latest screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s work, following three others. The film stars Anne Hathaway in the title role. Critics panned the movie, and its theatrical run was relatively short. Even so, it earned more than four times its production budget before an early digital release and plans for wider access.
Mixed reactions to the film
Nick Antosca wrote the screenplay, drawing on his experience with psychological thrillers including NBC’s Hannibal and Apple TV’s Cape Fear. The adaptation makes substantial changes to Hoover’s story.
Critics objected to how the plot twists were handled, while some viewers who had not read the book responded more favorably. The audience consensus included descriptions such as “hooked,” “sexy” and “nailbiting,” and the film received a 72% Popcornmeter score.
Alternate endings included
The film’s conclusion closely resembles the book’s, but it has become one of the movie’s most debated elements among fans. Some viewers felt the ending did not resolve the story effectively.
Amazon MGM Studios, working with Alliances Entertainment, has prepared a Blu-ray and 4K release featuring two alternate endings and previously unseen deleted scenes. The two-disc set arrives December 15 and also includes audio commentary by director Michael Showalter.
