Getting delivery for your Costco order? Here's which app is cheapest
DoorDash and Uber Eats have broadened their Costco delivery coverage. Uber Eats now serves the retailer in 47 states, while DoorDash says it delivers from Costco stores across the country.
The new options join Instacart, which has offered Costco delivery since 2017. Costco CEO Ron Vachris discussed the existing partnership during the company’s latest earnings call.
To compare costs, a Business Insider reporter ordered from the same Costco location visited in person on the same day. The reporter added a Costco membership to each app, but did not subscribe to their paid plans.
Every product in the test cost more through an app than at the warehouse. DoorDash and Uber Eats prices were generally similar, while Instacart prices were often higher; the final bill also included taxes, fees, discounts and a 5% tip.
Instacart said retailers determine product prices on its platform, while DoorDash said pricing differs among retailers. Both DoorDash and Uber Eats have discussed Costco alcohol delivery, but neither provided a launch date in the article. The reported comparison covers 15 products, though the article excerpt does not give the final totals.
