Liga MX Femenil Explained: Why Rayadas vs América Matters

What is Liga MX Femenil?

Liga MX Femenil is the highest level of women's soccer in Mexico ³. It is a professional association football league. Association football is the formal name for soccer.

Its formal name is Liga MX Femenil, and its official sponsored name is Liga BBVA Femenil ³. It is supervised by the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol, the body that oversees organized soccer in Mexico ³.

The league has 18 participating teams ³. Each team is connected to a Liga MX club, which is a club in Mexico's top men's league ³. That means many fans already know the team names, colors and cities, such as Monterrey, América and Tigres.

The season is divided into tournaments. The current tournament is called the Apertura 2026 ¹. Apertura means opening, and it is the first tournament of the soccer season in Mexico. After the regular schedule, the top teams move on to the playoffs, often called the fiesta grande or liguilla, to decide the champion.

Why are Rayadas and América in the headlines?

People are talking about a recent match between Rayadas and Club América Femenil at Estadio BBVA ¹. Rayadas is the women's team of Monterrey. América is the women's team of Club América from Mexico City.

América led by two goals, but lost that lead in the second half ¹. Rayadas came back to win and ended América's unbeaten record in this tournament ¹. The coach of América is Ángel Villacampa ¹.

The key player in the comeback was Aerial Chavarin ¹. She played strongly in the second half and scored two goals, which is called a doblete or brace ¹. The two teams together scored seven goals, which showed strong attacking play on both sides ¹.

The result drew attention because both teams are seen as contenders to win the title ¹. They are described as two of the most successful clubs in the country and two of the strongest squads in this tournament, along with Tigres ¹. As of October 3, 2026, reporting on the match was still developing ¹.

Why are some fans calling it a revenge match or a clásico?

This was not just a regular league game. It was played in round 10, or fecha 10, of the Apertura 2026 ². It was also a remeeting after the final of the previous tournament, in which América won the championship over Rayadas ².

Before the game, América defender Jana Gutiérrez said Rayadas should see the match as a revenge game ². Rayadas midfielder Marcela Restrepo disagreed ². Restrepo is a Colombian player for the Monterrey team ².

Restrepo said each person can see it as they wish, but for her it was not revenge because it was only round 10 and not a final to decide the champion ². She said Rayadas' goal is not only to beat América, but to become champions in the playoffs ².

The word clásico in Mexican soccer usually means a rivalry with history and strong emotions. Headlines are now asking whether Rayadas vs. América is becoming that kind of rivalry. The players themselves focused more on the level of play. Restrepo said both were the best teams in the tournament and she expected a good show for women's soccer fans ².

What does this mean if you are new to the league?

For an ordinary reader, this match is a useful introduction. It shows that the league has strong teams, skilled players and close games. Both Rayadas and América arrived as leaders of their respective groups and among the leaders in attack and defense ².

It also shows how the season works. A loss in round 10 does not decide the champion. Teams aim to finish high in the table and then compete in the playoffs. That is why Restrepo spoke about the larger goal of reaching the fiesta grande and winning the title ².

If you follow men's soccer, many club names will feel familiar. If you do not, you can simply pick a team from your city or one whose style you enjoy. You do not need to know all 18 teams at first. Starting with two or three leading teams, such as Rayadas, América and Tigres, can make it easier ¹.

For families and older readers, the league can be a calm way to follow sport. Games are shorter than many other events, rules are the same as men's soccer, and coverage often includes short recaps. You can watch highlights first and then decide if you want to watch full matches.

How can you follow the season without confusion?

Start with the basics. Look for the Apertura 2026 standings, schedule and results. The standings show points, wins, draws and losses. The schedule shows the round number, such as fecha 10 ².

Pay attention to home and away games. This recent game was played at Estadio BBVA, the home stadium of Rayadas in Monterrey ¹. Home teams often have more support from local fans, which can matter in close games.

Follow trusted recaps rather than rumors. For this match, early reports focused on the two-goal lead, the second-half comeback and Chavarin's two goals ¹. Pre-game coverage focused on quotes from Restrepo and Gutiérrez ². Quotes under 12 words can be clear, such as Restrepo's line that it is "not revenge" in this context ².

As of October 3, 2026, details may still be updated as full match reports appear ¹. If sources disagree on scorers, minutes or tables, wait for the league or club pages to confirm. For official schedules, tickets or broadcasts, check the league, club or broadcaster sites directly.
