On 60 Minutes, Trump told viewers he was planning post-midterm firings; hours later announced Susie Wiles would leave

Trump hints at team changes

In an interview with 60 Minutes correspondent Ross Douthat, Trump was asked whether he expected to dismiss anyone following Republicans’ losses in both chambers of Congress. He replied, “I do, yeah. Little bit.”

Trump said he valued his Cabinet but might make a few changes. His comments came shortly before he announced Wiles’ departure from the chief of staff position.

Miller to replace Wiles

Trump announced Friday that Stephen Miller would take over as White House chief of staff. He told reporters he wanted a change and said, “sometimes in life, you have to make moves.” Wiles had submitted her resignation on Thursday. CBS News reported that her decision was connected to the GOP’s midterm defeats.

Hegseth remains in place

Trump indicated that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was safe for now, despite CBS News reporting that Trump had asked advisers this week whether Hegseth should remain. Asked if he had confidence in the defense secretary, Trump answered, “I do.” Trump also made claims about wars and Venezuela during the interview. He said the United States had won two wars and described one as having been won in less than an hour.

Other departures from administration

The president has otherwise kept much of his team in place, CBS News reported. The 60 Minutes interview was scheduled to air Sunday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and Paramount+.
