Wisconsin Lands WR Dontay Tyson in a Commit Flip That Shouldn’t Seem Surprising

Tyson Chooses Wisconsin

Tyson announced his change of plans as Washington prepared to play Nebraska on Halloween night. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound recruit moved from one Big Ten program to another, leaving the Huskies for Wisconsin.

He had initially chosen Washington over Texas A&M and other suitors. Wisconsin may offer a clearer path to playing wide receiver, while his departure was followed by quarterback Blake Roskopf’s de-commitment on Wednesday.

Washington Has Receiver Depth

Washington has sophomore receivers Dezmen Roebuck and Chris Lawson starting, with true freshmen Mason James, Jordan Clay and Trez Davis serving as backups. Four-star recruits Tre Moore, Zerek Sidney and Braylon Pope are also committed.

That competition could have made it difficult for Tyson to secure a prominent role, despite his recruiting credentials. The article describes the Huskies’ young receiving group as highly skilled and says more talent is on the way.

Transfers Offer Mixed Results

Receivers Raiden Vines-Bright and Marcus Harris transferred after their freshman seasons, apparently seeking larger roles. Their subsequent playing time has differed from what they may have hoped for.

Vines-Bright moved to Arizona State and went from starting seven games and catching 24 passes for Washington to starting two games and recording nine receptions for the Sun Devils. Harris appeared only in Washington’s 2025 LA Bowl and made no catches; after joining UCLA, he had not played that fall.

Tyson’s High School Production

In his fourth season at Peoria High, Tyson had recorded 164 receptions for 2,135 yards and 35 touchdowns. During his ongoing senior season, he had 45 catches for 687 yards and seven scores.

His production and four-star status made him an appealing addition for Wisconsin. Still, Washington’s existing receivers and incoming recruits help explain why his decision to leave did not cause much alarm among Huskies supporters.
