Where Tiger Woods could play next: Getting clues from golf events and the Masters

Possible Return This Year
Woods has not competed in stroke play since the 2024 Open Championship and appeared in just one TGL match in 2026. A rollover crash in March, inpatient treatment and a no-contest plea to reckless driving have shaped speculation about when he might return.
The Hero World Challenge still had three open places in its 20-player field. Kevin Kisner, a former teammate of Woods, said he had been told Woods “wants to play.” TGL also lists Woods among the five players on Jupiter Links’ squad, making it a possible place to see him.
The PNC Championship could also suit Woods: it is a two-round scramble, and he has played there alongside his son, Charlie. It would be their final chance to seek a win before Charlie finishes high school; he is a senior committed to Florida State.
Augusta And The Genesis
The Genesis Invitational is another possibility. Woods hosts the event and has played it in recent years: he finished 45th in 2023 and withdrew with an illness in 2024. It is the only non-major PGA Tour event he has played in the past five years.
A Longer-Term Champions Path
Woods turns 51 in December. He had been expected to make his PGA Tour Champions debut in 2026, but that did not happen. The Insperity event could be a future option: Woods signed an endorsement deal with Insperity in 2025, and the company later appeared as a Jupiter Links sponsor.
His Pebble Beach event is called The Tiger Woods Invitational presented by Insperity. The 2027 PGA Tour Champions schedule also includes “The Insperity” in The Woodlands, Texas, offering another possible connection, but no appearance by Woods is confirmed.
Senior Opens Remain Uncertain
Woods could potentially play a future U.S. Senior Open. The 2028 championship is scheduled for Crooked Stick Golf Club, and a USGA official drew attention to the possibility of Woods appearing there. The 2027 event is at Oak Tree National in Edmond, Oklahoma. Woods has also said he feels he will be able to play future British Opens, but is unsure whether he can continue long enough to compete when the championship returns to a particular venue.
