A $72.5 million claim over alleged altered footage: hasan piker files defamation suit against scott jennings

Lawsuit challenges broadcast segment

Piker’s 38-page complaint was filed Tuesday in Washington, D.C., federal court. It concerns an Aug. 11 episode of “The Scott Jennings Show,” where Jennings played video taken from a 2024 livestream of Piker’s program.

The complaint alleges the footage had been manipulated and that Jennings used it to falsely suggest Piker supported lynching Black people. Piker is asking for $72.5 million in damages.

Piker alleges video was altered

The filing says Jennings’ actions went beyond inaccurately describing Piker’s words. It alleges the video was changed and paired with a quotation Piker never said. The complaint states that Jennings then made claims exceeding what the altered footage itself appeared to convey. These are allegations made by Piker in the lawsuit.

Post remained on X

Jennings posted a message urging viewers to watch the footage and consider what he said socialists planned for the Black community. By Wednesday, the post containing the video remained on X and had accumulated three million views.
