Apple launches touchscreen MacBook Pro, bringing a major change to its laptops | TechCrunch

Touch arrives on MacBook Pro
Apple’s new MacBook Pro makes the display a central way to interact with the laptop. Its launch follows the company’s earlier Touch Bar experiment, introduced nearly 10 years ago and later discontinued.
The 14-inch model starts at $2,899, while the 16-inch version begins at $3,399. Apple also unveiled a standard MacBook Pro with an M6 chip the day before, priced from $1,999.
Display and performance options
The display is rated for peak HDR and SDR brightness of 2,000 nits and a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1. Apple has also replaced the notch found on most current MacBooks with a cutout styled after Dynamic Island.
Hinge aims to steady screen
Apple designed a hinge to keep the display stable when someone taps it. The company says the design also helps steady the camera during video calls as users interact with content on screen.
The launch marks a second major product introduction for new CEO John Turnus. In September, he introduced the company’s first foldable, the iPhone Duo.
