Five NFL trade candidates to watch after Quenton Nelson, DeForest Buckner deals

Colts deals open the door

Indianapolis began its fire sale by trading guard Quenton Nelson to Seattle. Hours later, the Colts agreed to send defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2027 fourth-round pick.

The deals are described as two of the biggest in-season trades in 2026, with more potentially ahead. After a 2-5 start, the Colts could miss the playoffs for a sixth consecutive season and may use additional picks to support a rebuild.

Running backs draw interest

Taylor could offer a contender a powerful option for a postseason run. Entering Week 8, he ranked second in the league with 140 carries, fifth with 587 rushing yards and tied for first with eight rushing touchdowns.

Barkley’s trade market has been affected by hamstring, neck and back issues; he had 244 rushing yards in five games. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell suggested the Eagles could trade him to the 6-0 Vikings for a conditional 2027 third-round pick, while other teams pursuing a title might offer a similar package.

Three more players to watch

Simmons has drawn little notice during another lost season for Tennessee. Sports Info Solutions lists him tied among defensive tackles for the most sacks, with four, and the most pressures, with 22; the Giants, Bears and Raiders are potential destinations.

Thomas, 24, may benefit from a different offensive system if Coen’s offense does not suit him. The Chiefs, Rams, Ravens and Raiders are listed as possible fits. Arizona could look to move Baker’s contract. He signed a three-year, $54 million deal in 2024 with a potential out in 2027, and Over the Cap estimates a trade would save the Cardinals $16.155 million in cap space; the Bills, Steelers and Lions are potential destinations.
