Pentagon says Trump approves Army firing squad execution of Fort Hood killer Nidal Hasan

The Trump administration has approved the Army’s plan to execute former Maj. Nidal Hasan by firing squad, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Monday.

Hasan was convicted in a 2013 court-martial of killing 13 people and injuring more than 30 in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting. He was sentenced to death.

The Army secretary will determine the time and place of the execution, Parnell said.

Firing squads are rarely used in executions. The method was used three times in South Carolina last year, the first such executions in the United States since 2010.
