Netflix expands TV game lineup with Conjuring spinoff

Netflix announced The Conjuring: Unspoken, a horror game available exclusively through its service from October 13. Players use a phone as a controller.

The game is a story-driven paranormal investigation set at the Red Lion Inn in England. Players search for clues and influence events through dialogue choices.

Netflix says prior knowledge of the Conjuring films is not required, though familiarity with the story may add context to some appearances.

Supermassive Games developed the title; the studio is known for narrative horror games including The Quarry and Until Dawn. Its work on the game comes as it faces planned layoffs.

Supermassive said in August it intended to cut as many as 75 jobs. A former studio director later said on LinkedIn that over 70 people would be leaving. The article gives no further details about the game’s release beyond its launch date.

Key points

  • The game launches exclusively on Netflix on October 13.
  • Players investigate the Red Lion Inn using a phone controller and make story-shaping choices.
  • Developer Supermassive Games has announced planned layoffs affecting more than 70 staff, according to a former director.
