WATCH LIVE: Trump campaigns with Ricketts in Nebraska, where ranchers have beef with his import plan

President Donald Trump is due to campaign Monday in Grand Island, Nebraska, alongside Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts. The event is part of Trump’s monthlong series of rallies before the Nov. 3 midterms.

Ricketts, a former Nebraska governor, is seeking his first full six-year Senate term. He faces independent Dan Osborn, whose campaign has drawn attention from national political groups.

The contest comes as voters voice concern about the economy and high prices for essentials, including fuel and groceries. Those costs are an important issue for rural voters who have supported Republicans in recent elections.

Nebraska ranchers are also upset with the administration’s proposal to increase foreign beef imports. Trump says the plan could reduce consumer prices, while Ricketts argues it would hurt local ranchers and urges a different approach.

The race is being watched despite Nebraska’s generally strong Republican lean. The Grand Island area has a safe House race, while a competitive contest is underway in the Omaha area. Trump is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. EDT.
