An open-source tool lets you delete 12GB of Apple Intelligence data on macOS

An open-source command-line app called RemoveMacAI offers a way to switch off Apple Intelligence and remove its models from a Mac. The Verge reports the models can occupy substantial storage.

The tool’s developer says the former single setting for disabling the features is no longer available in macOS 27. Users otherwise have to change settings in multiple places, while the models remain stored locally.

RemoveMacAI disables Siri, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, the ChatGPT extension and summaries, then removes the models and blocks macOS from downloading them again. The developer says Dictation continues to work and the changes survive system updates.

The developer estimates the models use about 12GB, though the article notes that storage usage can vary. A status command reports the size of individual models.

Users who want Apple Intelligence back can run the tool’s revert command, which restores the features and permits the models to download again.

Key points

  • RemoveMacAI automates disabling Apple Intelligence features and deleting their on-device models.
  • The developer estimates the models occupy about 12GB, but actual storage use may differ.
  • A revert command can restore the features and allow models to download again.
