How to read an air filter size

The size is printed on the edge of the filter as width × height × depth in inches, for example 16 × 25 × 1. Buy that exact size.

Nominal and actual size

The big numbers are a rounded size; the true size is often a little smaller and printed in small type. Both mean the same filter.

MERV rating

MERV is how fine the filter is. Higher catches smaller dust but can strain some systems; check your furnace manual for the highest rating it accepts.
