Rachel Bilson Is Officially Ready to Return to The O.C. 23 Years Later, With a Different Vision

Two defining television roles
Bilson became widely known as Summer Roberts on Fox’s The O.C., which began in 2003. Summer’s relationship with Seth Cohen, played by Adam Brody, was central to the series.
In 2011, Bilson began a four-season run as Dr. Zoe Hart on The CW’s Hart of Dixie. The show followed Zoe’s life in Bluebell, Alabama. Both series built audiences around inviting settings and relationships.
Revival interest is growing
Actors from The O.C. have signaled interest in revisiting the show. Ben McKenzie said he would be willing to reprise Ryan Atwood, though he did not know of any serious discussions.
Bilson has also said she would consider returning to Hart of Dixie. At the show’s 15th anniversary celebration, she described it as a feel-good series that was enjoyable to watch and make.
Bilson favors Bluebell today
Speaking with Perri Nemiroff on Collider Ladies Night, Bilson discussed possible revivals while promoting Christmas at the Kringles. She said she could think of two broad approaches rather than specific storylines.
Bilson sees nostalgia for the early 2000s as a reason to revisit The O.C. But she said Hart of Dixie could offer a timely retreat, pointing to the popularity of cozy series such as Virgin River and Sullivan’s Crossing. “I’m a big fan of cozy,” Bilson said, describing Bluebell as a place to escape.
