After Busan talks, US urges China to honour trade deal commitments on farm goods

US officials press for action
The announcement concerns a deal negotiated between Washington and Beijing. Its progress depends on China fulfilling the commitments, according to the article.
Deal sought to ease tensions
Donald Trump and Xi Jinping agreed to ease tariffs and lift technology restrictions as part of the agreement. The measures were intended to de-escalate tensions after Washington and Beijing imposed tariffs on each other.
Agricultural purchases linked to tariffs
Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Huang Ling said China had been open to buying more US agricultural products. Huang said this depended on both sides implementing the agreed “30 billion for 30 billion” reciprocal tariff-reduction arrangement.
In May, the White House said Beijing had agreed to purchase $17bn of US agricultural goods each year from 2026. The target for this year was adjusted on a prorated basis, and the purchases were additional to an October commitment to buy US soya beans.
