Silas helped Justin Timberlake approve Don Toliver’s sample as he teases new music and Miami chef-ing

Timberlake hints at new material

More than a year after completing his Forget Tomorrow world tour, Justin Timberlake says he is making music again. His sixth solo album, Everything I Thought It Was, came out in 2024. Speaking on Complex’s Re-Rank video series, Timberlake mentioned working with Pharrell Williams, Quavo, Don Toliver and Timbaland. He said he was excited about what he had been creating, adding, “I’ve been chef-ing.”

A sample gets an easy yes

Timberlake discussed clearing a “Rock Your Body” sample for Don Toliver’s song “Body.” He said his 11-year-old son, Silas, is a fan of Toliver and encouraged him to approve it. “As soon as I heard it, I was like, yeah, of course,” Timberlake said. He added that he also liked Toliver’s album.

From concert to collaboration

Timberlake went to Toliver’s concert at Miami’s Kaseya Center, primarily to see whether the show was suitable for his son. He also joined Toliver onstage for a brief performance. After the concert, Timberlake and Toliver began working together. Timberlake also said he and Timbaland remain closely connected, describing their work as starting “from scratch.”
