After Maryland dismissal, Mike Locksley officially joins network as studio analyst Friday

A quick move to television
Locksley’s first Saturday as a television analyst will feature coverage of the Maryland team that parted ways with him 17 days earlier. Sports Business Journal reported that he will join Big Ten Network for the rest of the regular season.
He is set to debut Friday on The B1G Show, then appear on the network’s Saturday schedule. That slate includes B1G Countdown to Kickoff ahead of Maryland’s meeting with Purdue.
Maryland record and dismissal
Maryland dismissed Locksley on Oct. 21, one day after a home defeat by Rutgers left the Terrapins with a 2-5 record. He told ESPN’s Heather Dinich he planned to explore television work in the meantime, including the possibility of joining BTN, to see whether he liked it.
Across eight seasons in College Park, Locksley posted a 38-49 record. His tenure included three straight bowl appearances and three consecutive eight-win seasons from 2021 through 2023, alongside four losing seasons and a 16-47 record in Big Ten play.
Coaching remains a possibility
Locksley is expected to work weekends through the Big Ten Championship Game on Dec. 5. SBJ reporter Matt Fortuna also said he could appear during the network’s College Football Playoff coverage.
Broadcasting may not be his long-term path. Locksley told Dinich that he probably would not lead a program again and said he was considering assistant coaching roles in the NFL or at another prominent college program.
BTN has also brought former coaches into its studio between jobs. Former Michigan interim coach Biff Poggi joined the network this fall.
