VisionQuest: T’Nia Miller Breaks Down Jocasta’s Godlike, Badass Moment in Episode 7

One character, many sides
Miller plays Jocasta, an AI version of scientist Josephine Carrington who is first introduced as the Butcherbird Killer. The character is ambitious and intent on controlling humanity, but Miller does not approach her as simply evil.
Miller told Collider that she sees Jocasta as one identity with different facets. At her core, she said, Jocasta is Carrington, while the other sides emerge from circumstances.
Building the Ultron dynamic
Miller said Jocasta’s first meeting with Ultron comes in Episode 5, which the cast filmed chronologically. Before shooting the scene, she and James Spader sat with director Vincenzo Natali to discuss the moment.
Miller described Jocasta’s approach as flirtatious and strategic: she wants something of hers back. As the series progressed, she said, the characters’ relationship and the actors’ understanding of each other grew alongside it.
Understanding Jocasta’s motives
Miller’s conversation with Collider also addressed motherhood and Edgar Allan Poe as influences on her understanding of Jocasta. The character’s scenes with Ultron, she said, balance twisted attraction with moments that feel unexpectedly tender. The interview focused on Jocasta’s major reveals and moments in Episode 7, as well as which Marvel Cinematic Universe characters Miller would like Jocasta to meet.
