Patrick Stewart’s Most Iconic Video Game Roles That Still Resonate

A commanding emperor
In Bethesda Game Studios’ 2006 RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Stewart voiced Emperor Uriel Septim VII. The game opens with the player imprisoned as the emperor flees assassins alongside his Blades bodyguards.
Uriel appears only briefly before the Mythic Dawn cult kills him, but his performance gives the emperor grandeur and launches the main quest. With his final breaths, Uriel gives the player the Amulet of Kings and sends them to find his heir, Martin Septim, voiced by Sean Bean. Both performances returned in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered in 2025.
Zobek’s shifting loyalties
Stewart voiced Zobek in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, MercurySteam’s 2010 reboot of Konami’s vampire-hunting series. A veteran knight of the Brotherhood of Light, Zobek guides Gabriel Belmont, played by Robert Carlyle, and narrates each chapter.
The story reveals that Zobek is the Lord of the Dead and has manipulated Gabriel into killing the other Lords of Shadow. Stewart returned for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, where Zobek and Gabriel form an uneasy alliance to stop Satan’s return. His portrayal captures both the mentor and the schemer.
Returning to Picard and Xavier
Stewart first reprised Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the 1995 point-and-click game Star Trek: The Next Generation – A Final Unity, which brought back the show’s cast. He returned as Picard in Star Trek: Armada in 2000 and Star Trek: Elite Force II in 2003.
He also voiced Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men: Next Dimension (2002), X2: Wolverine’s Revenge (2003) and X-Men: The Official Game (2006). His Xavier appearances included Raven Software’s X-Men Legends games. In X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse, he was the only member of the films’ cast to reprise his role.
A lasting gaming legacy
Stewart treated video game work with the same respect he brought to major film roles. Across an ill-fated emperor, a treacherous knight and two celebrated characters from film and television, he gave each performance a distinct presence.
His theater, film and television work made him a familiar figure to audiences, while his game roles earned him a place in gaming history. For many players, he remains the voice behind some of their most memorable adventures.
