Coventry City: 14-year-old hands himself to police over Bradley Lowery video

Police investigate social media video

West Midlands Police said a 14-year-old had handed himself in after footage circulated online. The video appeared to show a supporter taunting Sunderland with a photograph of Bradley Lowery during Saturday’s Premier League fixture.

Police acknowledged the distress caused to the community and the family. Officers were keeping the family updated and working alongside Coventry City and Sunderland.

Coventry responds to footage

Coventry City said on Sunday it was investigating the video. The club’s statement followed the footage appearing on social media after its match against Sunderland.

Gemma Lowery speaks out

Bradley’s mother, Gemma Lowery, issued a statement through the Bradley Lowery Foundation, which raises funds and awareness to support children with cancer. She said her son deserved to be remembered with love rather than hate.

Lowery recalled how happy Bradley had been on the day shown in the image, describing those moments as precious because they were rare. She said seeing the memory used cruelly had hurt her, and hoped the club would act and the boy’s family would help him understand the impact of his actions.
