Saturday Night Made a Huge Mistake by Skipping a Halloween Episode UK Crossover

A missed crossover moment

Fouracres was in the United States after appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers on October 29, just days before SNL’s Halloween episode. Yet the episode, hosted by Inde Navarrette, did not include him.

The show featured returning guests Tom Hanks and Bobby Moynihan, as well as the World Series champions. Fouracres’ absence meant SNL did not welcome a cast member from its British counterpart for the first time.

The exchange had begun

Fouracres’ visit to Meyers offered another chance to build the connection. Meyers, a former SNL cast member and head writer who left in 2014, had visited the UK production with Tina Fey before its first season to advise on the show’s history, format and performers.

Fouracres’ growing profile

Fouracres has become one of SNL UK’s most recognizable performers, playing two prime ministers in the same year: Sir Keir Starmer and Andy Burnham. His Starmer impression drew on the Prime Minister’s “meep meep” glitch during PMQs, while his Burnham portrayed the politician as an ordinary Northerner.

His roles have also included William Shakespeare and Sir David Attenborough. A Cambridge graduate who performed with the Footlights society, Fouracres later appeared in the revived Spitting Image and played Donnie briefly in Ted Lasso’s fourth season.

Why the opportunity mattered

A Fouracres appearance on SNL could have brought a British comedy performer to a larger American audience, as Johnson’s appearance had done for the UK show. The article argues that the crossover might encourage viewers to discover SNL UK. SNL UK is available on Peacock in the United States the day after broadcast, offering American audiences a way to watch the British series.
