Lord of the Rings Officially Returns to Prime Video in 10 Days With New Lore

A New Chapter for the Series

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is scheduled to return to Prime Video in 10 days. Its next installment is expected to cover lore central to the broader franchise.

Amazon spent hundreds of millions of dollars acquiring rights to the property for a streaming series. The company has also said the first season broke viewership records on Prime Video.

Viewership and Season Gaps

Amazon said 150 million people watched the first season. A report, however, found that fewer than 40% of U.S. viewers finished all eight episodes. Nielsen reported that the second season drew slightly lower viewership in its first few days than the first season. Research has found that audiences often decline for shows with longer gaps between seasons.

Reviews and Audience Scores

The series premiered in 2022 and returned for its second season in 2024. Reviews have remained mostly positive, with Rotten Tomatoes scores of 84% for season one and 85% for season two.
