Denzel Washington’s Star-Studded 146-Minute Thriller Jumps Back Into Action on Free Streaming

A bodyguard’s mission turns personal
Directed by Tony Scott, Man on Fire follows John Creasy, an assassin in Mexico who reluctantly takes a job as a bodyguard. After the child in the family he protects is kidnapped, Creasy vows to seek revenge.
The film stars Washington alongside Dakota Fanning, Christopher Walken, Radha Mitchell, Mickey Rourke and Marc Anthony. The story also describes Creasy as an ex-CIA operative hired to protect a young girl in Mexico City, with the pair forming a bond before her abduction.
A story with earlier versions
The 2004 film is based on A.J. Quinnell’s 1980 novel, originally set in Italy, described in the article as a major kidnapping hotspot at the time. Washington’s film was the second adaptation of the book.
The first screen version arrived in 1987. Directed by Élie Chouraqui, it starred Scott Glenn as John Creasy and Joe Pesci.
Free viewing and a new adaptation
Man on Fire is available on Pluto TV, where viewers can watch it free with ads. The service offers hundreds of free live TV channels and thousands of free movies and shows.
Netflix later revisited Quinnell’s story in a seven-episode series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Creasy. Created and showrun by Kyle Killen, the series is a separate adaptation rather than a direct remake of the 2004 film. Set in Rio de Janeiro, it focuses on local politics, class divides and criminal conspiracies. Netflix’s series recorded more than 11 million views in its first four days and was its most-watched TV series in 22 countries.
