A shocking cross-party endorsement in Michigan, and more protests rock Europe: Weekend Rundown

Stevens backs Rogers in Michigan

Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., endorsed Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers on Sunday. The race is among the top battleground contests and could determine which party controls the Senate.

The endorsement came days after a dispute with Democrat Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign over an outside advertisement Stevens described as antisemitic. NBC News reported Saturday that the campaign had asked Stevens not to attend its events.

Stevens said she was endorsing Rogers for the United States Senate. The announcement marked a rapid change in the campaign’s final stages.

Alaska ballot lawsuit dismissed

The administration argued that voters might mistakenly choose the other Sullivan and sought to preserve ballots marked for Dan J. Sullivan. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., declined to say whether he would accept the result if Peltola won, predicting Sullivan would prevail.

Protests and other developments

In Frankfurt, rioters looted stores and set fire to barricades during Saturday demonstrations calling for lower living costs and better education. Protests over living costs and other causes have also taken place in France, Italy, Serbia and Spain.

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., was hospitalized Saturday after experiencing arm numbness at his son’s hockey game; his chief of staff said he had suffered a stroke. Virginia and Washington, D.C., also sued in an effort to halt construction of Trump’s planned triumphal arch.

Martha Stewart said she was distressed that her Halloween costume had caused offense. The article also reported the Golden State Valkyries’ WNBA championship, severe Indonesian fires, a fatal Florida jet crash, a California store shooting and an FBI attribution of a $6.3 billion Binance hack to North Korea.
