Dark Winds Meets Yellowstone: Jason Momoa’s Crime Thriller Officially Arrives on Netflix

A new streaming home
Netflix subscribers can stream The Red Road starting November 1. The series stars Jason Momoa and Martin Henderson, and joins all four seasons of Dark Winds on the platform; Season 4 arrived in July.
The two shows share a neo-Western setting and a focus on Indigenous communities. Dark Winds centers on tribal cop Joe Leaphorn, played by Zahn McClarnon.
The Red Road’s story
The Red Road aired on SundanceTV from February 27, 2014, to May 7, 2015. It follows the Ramapough Lenape Nation, whose community lies along the New York–New Jersey border.
The cast also includes Julianne Nicholson, Allie Gonino, Tamara Tunie, Kiowa Gordon and Annalise Basso. Gordon appears in Dark Winds, while McClarnon had a recurring role in The Red Road.
A brief run, unresolved ending
SundanceTV canceled The Red Road after two seasons, which ended without a definitive conclusion. The series was reportedly dropped amid low viewership, the network’s niche audience and mixed critical reception.
The show was SundanceTV’s second fully owned scripted original, following the gothic drama Rectify. Its Netflix arrival comes eleven years after its cancellation.
Dark Winds looks ahead
Dark Winds was renewed for a fifth season earlier in February. Filming ran from March or April through June, but no premiere date has been announced. The fifth season is not due to premiere until next year. In the meantime, Netflix viewers can watch the existing four seasons alongside Momoa’s earlier crime thriller.
