Aliens With Office Jobs
Men in Black, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, follows NYPD officer James Darrell Edwards III, played by Will Smith, as he joins a secret agency. He teams up with Agent K, played by Tommy Lee Jones, to pursue an intergalactic terrorist and protect a powerful energy source.
The film makes alien life feel like routine bureaucracy, blending science fiction with an odd-couple police partnership. Rick Baker’s creature effects give the aliens distinct identities, while the comic action and camp help make the film’s world feel playful.
A Return to the Skies
Top Gun: Maverick brings Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, played by Tom Cruise, back to the TOPGUN school after more than thirty years of service. He trains younger graduates for a dangerous mission targeting an unsanctioned uranium enrichment plant, while reckoning with his past and his connection to Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, played by Miles Teller.
The film’s aerial sequences relied on practical stunts: actors trained in aviation and filmed G-force maneuvers in F-18 Super Hornet cockpits with IMAX cameras. Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell and Lewis Pullman also appear, while a song by Lady Gaga accompanies the crowd-pleasing spectacle.
An Egyptian Adventure
Stephen Sommers’ The Mummy follows American explorer Rick O’Connell, played by Brendan Fraser, and archaeologist Evie Carnahan, played by Rachel Weisz. They face Imhotep, a cursed Egyptian high priest portrayed by Arnold Vosloo, after his spirit is awakened.
The pair must stop the resurrected mummy from spreading a devastating plague and pursuing immortality. The story combines comedy, adventure and action, while keeping a light touch.
