Beyond golf, Sand Valley lifestyle doesn’t slow when the season does: ice fishing and winter fun

Frozen ponds, guided fishing
At Sand Valley in central Wisconsin, frozen resort ponds become places for winter sports. Lake Leopold is the recommended spot for ice fishing, which takes place with a guide.
The resort provides fishing poles and bait, while the guide supplies additional equipment. Pond ice must be at least four inches thick before these activities take place.
Massage and court tennis
Sand Valley offers massages throughout the year, giving guests an indoor option during cold weather. The resort also has court tennis, a sport with a history stretching back more than 900 years.
Winter gatherings and food
The resort’s winter calendar includes a family-style Thanksgiving feast and a New Year’s Eve party. It also features culinary events scheduled from November through March. Those events include the Taste of the West Coast, inspired by California chefs and wine makers, and the fifth annual Friends of James Beard Chef Invitational. The weekend brings Midwestern chefs together for food, demonstrations and fundraising.
