From Black-Crust Pizza to Vivid Burgers: The Strangest Halloween Items on Fast Food Menus, Mashed

Burger King’s Halloween Whoppers
Burger King gave its Whopper a dramatic Halloween makeover in 2015, using a black bun flavored with A1 sauce and orange sesame seeds. The sandwich drew attention, but reports of blue or green bathroom effects contributed to its poor reception.
In 2022, the chain introduced the Ghost Pepper Whopper, with an orange bun, black sesame seeds, jalapenos, spicy queso and ghost pepper cheese. The Jack O’Lantern Whopper followed in 2025, pairing an orange bun and black sesame seeds with traditional Whopper fillings. That 2025 seasonal collection also featured fang-shaped vampire nuggets, mozzarella sticks wrapped to resemble mummies and a Franken-Candy sundae with popping candy and Oreo crumbs.
A Wednesday-inspired menu
Burger King’s 2024 Creepy and Kooky meal tied Halloween to the Netflix series “Wednesday.” Its purple Whopper bun was the most striking feature, while Swiss cheese added a different topping to the burger. The menu also included Thing’s Rings, Gomez’s Churro Fries and Morticia’s Kooky Chocolate Shake. Burger King kept the collection available through early November.
Pizza Hut’s dark pie
In China in 2017, Pizza Hut presented a pizza with black crust and a web design made from strands of mayonnaise over the cheese and sauce. A black bread-knot spider completed the decoration. Diners in Finland reported similar black pizzas in 2022, though those versions did not include the spider and web design.
