Leading SEC in rushing defense, LSU is a powerhouse nobody wants to face, David Pollack names college football threat

Pollack praises LSU’s offense

Pollack, a former Georgia defender and longtime college football analyst, made his assessment on the See Ball, Get Ball podcast. He said LSU has a mobile quarterback who can make plays through the air and outside the planned offense.

Pollack also pointed to wide receiver Jackson Harris and the return of tight end Trey'Dez Green. He said LSU has established a clear offensive identity, with Jones contributing as a runner and receiver.

Strong production on offense

LSU averages 318 passing yards per game, the most in the SEC, and 192 rushing yards, fifth in the conference. The Tigers have recorded 156 plays of at least 10 yards, also the SEC’s top total.

They rank third in the conference with 40 plays of 20 or more yards and 18 plays of at least 30 yards. The team is scoring more than 40 points per game.

Defense adds to LSU’s case

Blake Baker’s defense leads the SEC in rushing defense, allowing 85.4 yards per game and 2.7 yards per carry. LSU has also intercepted seven passes and allowed four passing touchdowns.

Playoff hopes face a test

LSU is 6-2 after one-score and one-point road losses to Ole Miss and Kentucky. ESPN’s FPI gives the Tigers a 45.2% chance of reaching the College Football Playoff.

The next three games are at home against No. 10 Alabama and No. 11 Texas, followed by a road trip to No. 16 Tennessee. A fourth loss would eliminate LSU from the playoff hunt, while the article says a third loss could still be survivable.
