Sarek Returns as Star Trek Officially Brings Back an Iconic Character for Magic’s Release 60 Years Later

A Star Trek anniversary crossover

Star Trek’s 60th anniversary is being marked with a new tabletop collaboration. Wizards of the Coast’s Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek set brings the science-fiction franchise’s civilizations and technology into the card game.

The release is scheduled for November 13. Its cards include well-known characters, while also drawing attention to the broader work of keeping a starship in operation.

Sarek leads card preview

Earlier previews featured franchise figures including Kirk, Picard, and Sisko. Collider’s exclusive preview adds eight cards to the set’s revealed lineup. The cards include Sarek, Federation Ambassador, shown in two art treatments, along with Astute Terraformer, Boarding Action, Fugitive Listener, Oberth-Class Starship, Pattern Buffer Preservation, Photosynthetic Physician, and Tal Shiar Analyst. The gallery contains nine images, reflecting the two versions of Sarek.

More than familiar faces

The selection combines characters with cards focused on ships, professions, and other elements of the franchise. That mix reflects a set built around more than its best-known captains.

Collectors and players will be able to explore the crossover when it launches November 13. The release gives fans a new tabletop format for celebrating six decades of Star Trek.
