Tesla Optimus Robots Finally Begin Rolling Off Production Line in Fremont
Production begins in Fremont
Tesla reported that it has started making Optimus robots at its Fremont factory. The company described the units coming off the line as its first production-quality robots. Tesla said it will keep improving both the robot’s design and the way it is made. It also said the existing process is appropriate for a commercial product, but gave no date for commercial availability.
Large output plans ahead
Tesla’s Fremont site stopped building the Model S and Model X earlier this year to make room for an Optimus production line. The line is intended eventually to produce one million robots annually.
A second line being built in Austin is planned to have yearly capacity of 10 million robots. Elon Musk has previously cautioned that expanding Optimus production could be “agonizingly slow,” according to the report.
Rivals move into the market
Tesla is pursuing a market with several other companies developing humanoid robots. Agility Robotics has placed its Digit robot at nine customer facilities and has plans to go public.
