Revolut and banking apps down as Google Cloud suffers outage in UK
Cloud problems in London
Google Cloud’s status dashboard showed service issues in its europe-west2 region, covering the London area. The disruption coincided with problems reported by several banking and finance services on Tuesday.
A person at another affected finance company said Google Cloud caused the outage. Some companies also named Google Cloud as the cause, while others attributed their issues to an unnamed third-party provider.
Apps report service disruption
Revolut said multiple services were affected and that it had been working to address the issue since it was identified that morning. The company apologized to customers for the disruption.
Halifax said some customers could not use its app or online services and that it was working to fix the problem. Emma, a UK budgeting app, also reported an outage and said its services had been affected by a London Google Cloud issue since 7am.
Companies respond to outage
Revolut said customers’ money and data were safe. Emma described its disruption as a technical outage, not a security issue. A Google spokesperson said the company was investigating and referred Business Insider to its status dashboard.
