Robert McClelland named anti-corruption boss after career as former Labor attorney general turned judge

McClelland takes commission role

The Coalition appointed McClelland to the court in 2015. His new role is at the National Anti-Corruption Commission, where he is set to follow its first commissioner, Paul Brereton.

Brereton left in May

Brereton quit as commission boss in May. He said criticism directed at him was “drawing attention away” from the body’s purpose. The change in leadership comes as the commission continues its work to strengthen integrity across the Commonwealth public sector.

Attorney General Michelle Rowland said McClelland had been chosen through an open, competitive and merit-based selection process. She also announced Christopher Savundra as the commission’s new deputy commissioner.

Rowland congratulated McClelland and Savundra on their proposed appointments. She said their expertise would benefit the commission and expressed confidence in their contribution to its work.
