Eighth Ebola case: Kenya confirms infection amid widening regional outbreak

Eighth infection reported in Kenya
The newly reported patient is a 49-year-old man who is not a healthcare worker. He developed a fever, headache and muscle pain, according to a statement attributed to a health official.
He developed symptoms on Saturday, then was quarantined and tested for Ebola, a Ministry of Health source said. Authorities said he was likely exposed to Kenya’s first case.
Outbreak spreads across borders
Ituri province in eastern DRC remains the epicentre, accounting for almost three quarters of confirmed cases, according to the government’s most recent data. On Sunday, the government said the virus had reached North Ubangi, the country’s eighth affected province.
Measures planned in Kenya
Kenya is set to introduce further measures, including limits on passenger numbers in cars and on motorbikes. Large public gatherings are also due to be suspended. The ministry said in a post on X that the fourth person was related to the deceased patient. The report does not clarify how that detail relates to the newly reported eighth case.
