Can michael carrick’s headphones silence the noise around Manchester United after six games without a win?

A difficult run continues
United’s six-match winless stretch is their longest since 2018-19, when results deteriorated after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became permanent manager. The team also had only two victories in its first 10 games across all competitions this season.
Mbeumo scored at Elland Road, but goals have been scarce elsewhere in Carrick’s squad. Bruno Fernandes, who struck three times against Ipswich in August, is the only other player to have scored more than once.
United ended the match in 13th place in the Premier League standings. They could fall further before the current round of fixtures is complete.
Carrick shuts out criticism
Carrick told BBC Radio Five Live that he had worn headphones during the week and had not heard the outside reaction to Lisandro Martinez’s outburst. Martinez started the match after apologising for when and where he made his comments, rather than for their substance.
Carrick described the game as a possible new beginning and said the team needed to accept its circumstances and respond. He acknowledged that the outlook could seem poor, but said he had confidence United could put together a strong run.
The previous season’s corresponding fixture was followed by a forceful press conference from Ruben Amorim. He was dismissed within 24 hours.
Mbeumo provides a bright spot
Mbeumo has been important while several United attackers have struggled. Fernandes has not matched his previous level, although Carrick said the Portuguese midfielder was “absolutely fine,” according to the account.
Mbeumo began the season on the right side of the attack while Amad Diallo was injured. After Amad returned, Mbeumo moved into the central striker position. Former United striker Dion Dublin praised Mbeumo’s willingness to play different roles and contribute in both defence and attack. He said the forward gives what he can to help the team.
Changes and challenges ahead
The account says repeated changes to Carrick’s team may be making his task harder. It also remains uncertain whether Luke Shaw will be fit for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Como in Italy.
Sporting director Jason Wilcox was at Elland Road, seated beside chief executive Omar Berrada. Martinez’s return to the starting lineup came after his apology over the timing and setting of his criticism.
