No state has a right to exist, says Zack Polanski, calling current application of Zionism racist

Polanski’s view of Zionism

Polanski said Zionism in its current form is racist. He argued that Palestinians are being killed because they are Palestinian, describing that as evidence of a racist ideology.

He cited 75,000 Palestinians murdered in recent years and said the number of child amputees was higher than at any time in modern history. These figures were part of his explanation for why he viewed the ideology as racist.

Motion and missed vote

Polanski did not attend the Green party vote on the motion, drawing accusations that he had shown a lack of leadership. He said he agreed with its broad thrust, but considered arguments over semantics unhelpful.

He also said the motion was not controversial. In his view, the killings of Palestinians were the central issue, rather than disagreements about wording.

Comments on statehood

Asked whether Israel had a right to exist, Polanski, who is Jewish, said no state had such a right under international law. He also said a two-state solution was “for the birds,” citing Israel’s opposition to it.

Key points

  • Polanski said Zionism in its current form is racist.
  • He backed the broad thrust of the Green party motion but missed its vote.
