Finally Hear Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon a Time in Shaolin Album in Two Snippets
A rare chance to listen
The podcast Pablo Torre Finds Out has published an episode about Once Upon A Time in Shaolin, featuring two snippets from the album. They can be heard at 32:30 and 39:02 in the show.
The recording captures a listening party organized by the podcast with PleasrDAO. Method Man attended and heard the album for the first time.
The album’s ownership history
Martin Shkreli bought the album’s only copy at auction in 2015. The record cannot be commercially released until 2103. Shkreli later had to forfeit the album to the US government. In 2021, the government sold it to PleasrDAO, a crypto art collective.
Exhibitions and access
PleasrDAO has allowed the album to be played at special exhibitions. Its collaboration with the podcast brought the record to the listening party documented in the episode. The album’s one-copy status and limits on commercial release have made it unusually difficult to hear. The two excerpts offer only a brief listen to the work.
