After Five Days, Katie Zacharia Is Mercilessly Mocked Online, Her Trump Job Lasting Just a Week

Brief tenure draws online jokes

Trump announced Zacharia’s hiring one week before firing her. She served five days as White House press secretary, following what the report described as a disastrous briefing.

Credentials become a focus

Questions about Zacharia’s law credentials followed her through the week. On Thursday, she told right-wing podcaster Jack Posobiec that she had never passed the bar exam.

Critics and supporters respond

The Democratic Party’s official X account posted a Hunger Games meme portraying Zacharia as a fallen tribute, along with a spoof LinkedIn image labeling her “#Opentowork.” The Daily Show and California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s press office also made “in memoriam” tributes about her short stint.

MAGA figures pushed back against the criticism. Posobiec said Zacharia “will have a bright future,” while conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer said people were being “unnecessarily cruel” and should leave her alone.

Trump recounts his advice

Trump told reporters Friday afternoon that he had spoken candidly with Zacharia. “I said to her honestly, if I were you, I'd reconsider,” he said.
