King's funding for Andrew is not for legal action against police

Mountbatten-Windsor is seeking a judicial review of search warrants obtained before his arrest in February. Thames Valley Police says it is involved in legal proceedings concerning those warrants.

The allowance is separate from the Sovereign Grant, the article says. At the time of the arrest, the King said the law should take its course; the Palace is now distancing itself from the legal challenge.

Mountbatten-Windsor has denied wrongdoing connected to his association with Jeffrey Epstein. He previously lost his prince and Duke of York titles over those links.

Key points

  • The King’s private allowance is not meant to fund Mountbatten-Windsor’s legal challenge.
  • The challenge concerns search warrants issued before his February arrest.
  • The allowance does not come from public funding through the Sovereign Grant.
