The men died after falling ill on the Great North Run course, organisers say
Two 25-year-old men have died after collapsing during the Great North Run, the event's organiser said.
The Great Run Company said both men were from the north-east of England and passed away despite the best efforts of the event's medical team.
"We are continuing to support their families during this incredibly difficult time, and our thoughts and sympathies are with all those who loved and knew them," the spokesperson said.
Among those taking part was Andy Burnham, who became the first sitting Prime Minister to take on the half marathon.
