Pedro Taduran, world champion, still aiming for Oscar Collazo fight despite frustration

Taduran’s next title defense

Taduran, 20-4-1 with 14 knockouts, regained his IBF title in 2024 by dethroning previously unbeaten Ginjiro Shigeoka. He is set to face Brandon Moreno, who is 16-0 with five knockouts, in the main event on Wynn Records Network on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Moreno, from Madrid, Spain, is described as a top-ten contender. Taduran, from Paranaque City, Philippines, is already looking toward larger bouts after the matchup in New Mexico.

A desired bout with Collazo

Oscar Collazo is the division’s biggest name, according to the report. Taduran said he was frustrated that a fight between them had not materialized, and the potential matchup is described as one of the division’s biggest.

Taduran has also argued that lower weight classes deserve more television exposure. He told KO On SI that these divisions regularly produce competitive matchmaking and fights designed to entertain fans.

Discipline and support

Taduran’s nickname, “General,” comes from his middle name and also reflects his disciplined approach to training camps. He said he aims to control the pace in the ring and make opponents follow his plan.

He credited his management teams, UKC/Elorde and Knuckleheads, with helping him return to championship level. Taduran said their support helped his resurgence and his subsequent title defenses.

National pride and expectations

Taduran said representing the Philippines motivates him. He embraces the expectations associated with champions such as Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire and Donnie Nietes, and said he wants to keep winning and add his name to theirs.

The report describes Taduran as the Philippines’ only current world champion, while he believes more champions will emerge. He also pointed to fellow flyweight stablemate Arvin Jhon Paciones as a prospect for international fight fans to watch.
