Sylvester Stallone’s Action Reboot Is Officially a Knock Hit, With 10 Awards for Rocky

Tulsa King starts strong

Stallone returned as Dwight “The General” Manfredi when Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King launched its fourth season last month. The premiere, titled “W.W.D.D.,” was written by Terence Winter and directed by Guy Ferland, and reached the top of Paramount+.

After the first three episodes, Season 4 had an 86% average critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. That placed it second among the show’s seasons by rating. In the latest episode, Governor Clark went after Dwight and his crew as tensions built toward the season’s midpoint.

Rocky remains a defining role

Stallone’s Dwight role has become one of his best-known performances, but Rocky Balboa remains central to his career. The character first appeared on screen in 1976 and quickly became a pop culture figure.

The original Rocky earned ten Academy Award nominations and won Best Picture. Later entries did not match the first film’s heights, setting the stage for a fresh direction in the franchise.

Creed brings a new generation

Ryan Coogler directed Creed, the 2015 reboot of the Rocky franchise. After working with Michael B. Jordan on Fruitvale Station, Coogler cast him as Adonis Creed, who brings Rocky in as his trainer and mentor.

Eleven years after its release, Creed has become a major streaming success. The film spent 70 days in Pluto TV’s U.S. top ten, extending the reach of Stallone’s Rocky story to streaming viewers.
